By spending time with your family before the camera ever comes out. Once everyone feels comfortable with me and with each other, the posed feeling disappears; the best moments almost always happen when your family stops performing for the camera and just starts being together. My job is to be ready for that moment, not to manufacture it.
-
A few weeks out is ideal, especially if you're hoping for a specific season or want time to plan wardrobe together. That said, if you're working with a tighter timeline, reach out — we'll always try to make it work.
-
It happens, and it's genuinely fine. Every session includes a complimentary 30-minute buffer to let everyone settle in and reset. If more time would help, we can extend the session at our standard rate, or reschedule for another day — no hard feelings, no judgment. If it's a matter of sudden illness or a real family emergency, we'll always work with you on rescheduling.
-
Of course, pets are part of the family. We just ask that any pet who might get anxious or reactive around a camera and new surroundings have a handler nearby who isn't also trying to be in the photo.
-
Cohesive color palettes, natural textures, and classic tailoring photograph beautifully and age well. We generally steer away from busy graphics, logos, or anything too trend-driven — the goal is a portrait that still feels right to look at in twenty years. We'll walk through specific wardrobe guidance together during your consultation.
-
No problem — we'll find a new date together, no penalty.
-
It depends on your collection and what we're capturing together — most sessions run one to two hours. We'll set expectations clearly during your consultation.
-
For family and portrait sessions, professional hair and makeup can be added on request — just mention it during your consultation and we'll build it into your session.
-
Natural, first. My editing philosophy is to highlight how your family actually looks, not manufacture a different version of you. If you'd like more polished retouching, that's absolutely something we can do — we'll simply talk through your preferences ahead of time so the final images feel right to you.
-
Every Yew collection centers on a professionally framed print for your home — sized and styled to fit your space, reviewed together during your consultation so you know exactly what you're getting before the day of your session.
-
Your framed print is the centerpiece of every Yew collection, alongside access to your private online gallery. You will receive an engraved flash drive with select images for preserving your family’s history.
-
Timing (usually 2- 3 weeks) depends on the scope of your session, and we'll confirm a specific timeline with you at your consultation. Once your gallery is ready, we'll set up your selection meeting to choose your final images and confirm your framed piece.
-
Reach out directly to schedule your bespoke consultation — either virtually or in your home. That's where we'll get to know your family, talk through your vision, and lock in your session date.
